Just a quick note here to say thank you to… someone.
If you look at the top of the page on this site, you’ll see a line of script that says “Enjoy this site? Gift the author a WordPress.com plan.”
In other words, WordPress is encouraging you to cover the cost of my annual subscription. WordPress puts that text on its sites automatically and I’ve never bothered to remove it because, hey, why not have it there? You can’t open the door to opportunity if you don’t have a door.
At the same time, however, I would not have ever expected anyone to actually do such a thing. You’ll note that I don’t even mention it on the page where I suggest several ways for folks to show their support for Dancing the Polka.
Well, it appears that I should start placing text for other improbable scenarios on my website (ARE YOU A CRYPTO-BILLIONAIRE? WHY NOT GIVE £2 MILLION TO DANCING THE POLKA!), because earlier this week someone actually clicked that text at the top of the page.
On Wednesday, an email popped into my inbox with this message: “One of your readers covered your WordPress.com Business renewal cost… This will be good until September 11, 2027.”
Thanks to one of you amazing and incredible people, this site will definitely keep going for another year.
But here’s the thing: WordPress has not told me who did this. So, I’ve been unable to contact that person directly and thank them as profusely as they deserve to be thanked.
All I can think to do, then, is hope that they’ll see this post and know how surprised by and appreciative of their support I am. Thank you, mystery person. You are awesome. You’ve supported me to an extent that I would never have expected; you’re helping the dream move forward.

Meanwhile, if anyone reading this actually is a crypto-billionaire, I’d really encourage you to consider the whole £2 million thing. I mean, I like to think of myself as a man of propriety but for £2 million I could be persuaded to write some pretty glowing articles about whatever crypto enterprise you’re involved in.
Think of the reach, man! This site is regularly read by at least six people, one of whom clearly has enough money to cover the annual subscription cost. By gifting £2 million to Dancing the Polka, you’re making a shrewd investment that is all but guaranteed to make a return.
