Motorcycle clothing company Louis commissioned bike to celebrate 80th anniversary

Look, I know my fanboyism toward Indian Motorcycle can be a little silly at times. I mean, I wrote an adoring article about branded boots once (they are actually good boots, though). But this bike is standalone sexy, regardless of bias.

The bike, called Engina, was produced by Detlev Louis Motorrad-vertriebsgesellschaft mbH, better known simply as Louis, to celebrate the company’s 80th anniversary. Louis is a huge motorcycle clothing retailer that operates primarily in German-speaking countries – Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.

The fact I don’t speak German (beyond being able to order food: “Bratwurst mit Frittes und einem Bier, bitte.”) is at the heart of my being late to the party on this one because, as it happens, Engina has been around since September of last year, when it took part in the “Clash of the Legends” race at Glemseck 101. Since then, it’s picked up several prizes at both race events and in design contests.

Engina is based on an Indian Chief, which means it’s driven by the hulking 1811cc Thunder Stroke 111 V-twin. Though, there have been some modifications, of course. To give it the power needed to compete in sprint races, Louis brought in engine specialist Ulf Penner. More aggressive camshafts, more direct airflow, upgraded cylinder heads, and new engine mapping were among the tricks up his sleeve; the bike now delivers almost 70 percent more power. That works out to roughly 125 hp. A new header from STParts with a Shark silencer makes sure the custom also has the sound to match.

It all fits into a new UNO lightweight frame, with upside-down front fork, and Wilbers rear shock. A Brembo braking system delivers the necessary stopping power to custom-made Kineo rims, and there are new triple clamps from Alpha Racing with a matching Gilles stub handlebar.
