Kawasaki Offers Free Luggage a Week Too Late (For Me, Anyway)

Japanese manufacturer offers a reason to go green

Kawasaki UK has announced a new round of incentives that, had I known about them a week ago, might have seen me looking forward to owning a Z1000SX rather than a completely different machine.

Might. Might not. Some folks may remember that I was seriously considering a Z1000SX as a replacement for my too-big-to-fit-in-the-garden Triumph Tiger Explorer XRX. Last week I finally made a decision, choosing something that isn’t even on the aforementioned list. More on that new bike in the coming days. In the meantime, let’s focus on the deal that Kawasaki is offering on its Versys 650 and Z1000SX models until 31 May 2019: free luggage.

Actually, it’s a little more than that. Kawasaki UK is offering a free Touring package for either bike.

Kawasaki Versys 650

“Realise the full potential of your Versys 650 or Z1000SX and explore more by leaving nothing behind,” states a media release. “You will be loading up your luggage and it will be happy haulin’, with smiles for miles thanks to the panniers and other genuine accessories that are included in the Touring package.”

In the case of the Versys 650, the normally £650 package includes:

  • Panniers with a combine 56-liter capacity
  • Pannier bags (ie, bags to go inside the panniers)
  • Handguards
  • Tank pad

Whereas folks opting for a Z1000SX will get the following £700 package lagniappe:

  • 56-liter pannier system
  • Pannier bags
  • Tank pad
  • GPS bracket

Keen eyes will note the absence of heated grips in either package. I’m with the increasing number of riders who feel heated grips should be standard on any bike with a capacity greater than 500 cc. Kawasaki charges a whopping £238 for heated grips that look very much like the Oxford heated grips that will set you can buy off Amazon for £80.
